They've been warning us for years that it could happen.
The Postmaster General is using the debt talks in government to push the idea of doing away with Saturday delivery, and this time he thinks it'll stick. And it needs to -- it'll save the Post Office $3.1 billion a year.
Falling mail volume and soaring red ink may soon doom Saturday mail delivery and prompt three-day-a-week delivery within 15 years, Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe warns.
Donahoe's forecast is based on a projected $8.3 billion loss this year as the drift from paper to electronic communication hammers the Postal Service. "On Sept. 30," he told the USA TODAY editorial board Tuesday, "I won't be able to pay my bills."
Chief among them: a $5.5 billion payment due Sept. 30 to cover future retirees' health benefits.
The only issue we see about it is potentially not getting awesome magazines and birthday cards if the delivery happens to be on a Saturday. Otherwise, we think it's probably for the best. Ha!
Some people are worried about more rural areas though, where driving distances are an issue and the delivery of meds on Saturdays is an important thing. We agree that it's important, but, the U.S. mail is not the only delivery service out there, and rushes can be put on things as well.
Plus, according to the Postmaster, not much is delivered on Saturdays regardless.
Will U be hurt by them stopping Saturday delivery??

Utah's Republican Senator Orrin Hatch thinks the rich has already done enough to help the nation's debt, and it's time for the poor to help.
Hatch's comments (watch above) were in opposition of a motion that passed 74 to 22. Said motion will begin the debate on whether or not there should be a non-binding resolution demanding millionaires and billionaires to play a better role in reducing the country's debt.
Hatch believes the wealthy pay too much in taxes, even though their tax rates have been at modern lows since the Bush administration cut them down back in 2001 and 2003.
In his mind, the middle and lower classes should pay more even if they don't have more to give.
During his comments, he said he wished he could really let go on Obama but wouldn't because he likes him personally.
Well, at least he pulled back on going all middle school on our president. That's somewhat of a start right?
What do U think of his comments?
Underground poker games happen all the time, we assume.
What we don't assume, however is that Tobey Maguire, Leo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck take part in them -- especially the ones being run by a "Beverly Hills hedge fund manager who embezzled investor funds and orchestrated a Ponzi scheme in a desperate bid to pay off his monster debt to the star and others."
Let's be clear, though, Leo, Matt, and Ben aren't being sued. Maguire is being sued, however, because the hedge fund manager, Brad Ruderman, had used investor money to pay off a debt to Maguire (more than $300k). Because the game was illegal, the money was both not Ruderman's to give, and not Maguire's to receive.
Apparently, Maguire was a really frequent player, winning upwards of a $1 million a month... for a long time! One of the whistleblowers even said that Maguire probably earned somewhere in the ballpark of $30-$40 million dollars in all from these poker games.
It's illegal, of course, to play for money in these underground poker games, but it's rarely prosecuted. Nobody is under criminal investigation. So that's good news for Toby and the crew.
To us, it's kind of ridiculous to risk something like this. Just go to Vegas and find the highest stake poker game you can find where it's still legal. Problem solved.
Toby has hired a lawyer to argue that the games weren't illegal. We say you have enough scratch, settle the lawsuit, and move on -- you're lucky enough not to be under criminal investigation!
How do U feel about these guys playing this stuff??

Truly sickening.
After failing her exams, getting into debt, and dropping out of college, 19-year-old female law student Aisha Mather made up a story that she was raped so she wouldn't have to tell her parents the REAL reason why she was returning home.
To ensure that her lie seemed real, she "ripped her own tights" and "wrecked her flat." She claimed she'd been dragged into her apartment by her hair, and was "brutally attacked by a tattooed stranger who followed her home." She EVEN claimed that there was a semen stain left on her tights.
As a result of her extensive lie, an innocent man was arrested and detained for over a day, AND three other men were questioned by police.
Once it became clear that her story was untrue, she admitted everything, and yesterday she was sentenced to two years in jail.
Rape is a serious issue and NOT something to be taken lightly. We find it very disturbing that she would make up such an elaborate, awful story instead of facing the truth, and we only hope she'll learn her lesson during her time behind bars.
What do U think about all of this?

…and she's okay with it!
Back in 1993, Barbara Streisand donated a 22.5-acre Malibu ranch to the state of California and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, an agency established by Governor Jerry Brown during his first term in 1980.
In an effort to balance the budget, Gov. Brown wants to sell the property known as Ramirez Canyon Park, despite fierce opposition.
Luckily for him, Mz. Streisand seems cool with it and has said:
"I understand Governor Brown's tough decision given the severe budget shortfalls that California is facing. I only hope that there is little disruption to the residents of Ramirez Canyon through this potential transition and that whatever entity does purchase the land and the homes on it will preserve its special habitat."
So understanding!
The $15 million property contains meadows, gardens, a creek and three homes customized by Streisand herself, but is only open to the public by special appointment.
The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy is against the sale of the ranch, but California doesn't seem to think it serves "any essential state function."
A spokesperson said, "The state should not be the landlord for a place that hosts mountain retreats."
Do U think the state should profit from a donated property to help pay off California's debt or should it remain a state park?

C'mon, wouldn't you like to?! Gurl has bills to pay!
That's right, for the very reasonable price of $75 - apparently a portion of that also goes to charity - you can attend the Teresa Giudice's Season Three Premiere Party of The Real Housewives of New Jersey at the Tribecca Nightclub in Fort Lee, NJ, and not only receive an hour of free drinks and hor d'ouevres, but also an autographed picture with the reality star!
According to invite, expect "celebrity surprises," "fashion shows" and "star performances!"
Does that mean Michael Lohan and Kim G will be appearing to debut their new reality show/tanning line/new single/whatever they have planned?
LOL!
Yeah. We'll be sure to sign right up!
Good luck with that debt, gurl!

Richard Hatch, the Survivor champion, has to survive a whole less hospitable location than a jungle with a camera crew — he Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
A few days ago, Richard was locked up and the key was thrown away to start his 9 month "life vacation," as we call it, for not paying the taxes on his $1 million prize from Survivor.
Apparently he couldn't raise enough money to pay off the debt between his time on Celebrity Apprentice and his jail date, because now he's in the clink from April 29 to December 12, 2011, unless something weird happens. Like a Shawshank kind of escape.
Should have figured out a way to pay it years ago! Whomp whomp!

Unfortunately, we're learning of another big name in the industry who owes the tax man some major money.
This time it's Martin Scorsese, the Oscar award-winning director, and he owes $2.85 million dollars.
But once again, this could be a case of not-his-faults like we reported with Al Pacino, because Martin too was duped by that evil mastermind Kenneth Starr.
The only issue here is that this isn't the first time that Marty's had issues with his taxes.
Those were bad as well:
Over a six-month period in 2002-03, the IRS slapped him with three liens totaling nearly $1.9 million — and a year later, New York state obtained a $149,437 tax judgment against him. Those prior tax debts have been paid in full, Finance Department records show.
It's never a good thing to see people in trouble with the IRS, and we thought you had this behind you, Martin!
But if it was Ken, then, we're sorry we ever doubted you! LOLz!
Thoughts on these IRS troubles??

Wowsa!!
It's been a year and a half since Michael Jackson has passed, however the singer's estate continues to earn big bucks.
Sales from his hit records, his film This Is It, and memorabilia have earned his estate $310 million since his death in June 2009.
The good news is that the revenue from the past year and a half have helped the handlers of his estate, including mother Katherine Jackson, slowly crawl out of the $400 million debt that was left when MJ passed away.
This is great news for both Katherine and MJ's children. We have a feeling Michael's name and image will be a hot commodity for a long time…
