Awful! Kidnapped Lesbian Blogger Story Was A Hoax By A 40-Year-Old Married Man!

This is deplorable.

Last week, we heard that Lesbian blogger Amina Araf, who writes the blog A Gay Girl in Damascus AND is a voice for anti-government opposition in Syria, was kidnapped in Damascus.

Now, we've learned that the A Gay Girl in Damascus blog is actually just a 40-year-old married man who lives in Edinburgh, and the entire kidnapping story was a hoax.

The awful man behind the blog, Tom MacMaster, is a grad student working on his master's at Edinburgh.

It gets worse, though! Apparently, Amina Arraf Tom pursued a "six-month online relationship with a woman in Canada" via email while in character. Sickening!

Here's what Tom wrote about the hoax in a final blog entry entitled "Apology to Readers":

"I never expected this level of attention. While the narrative voıce may have been fictional, the facts on this blog are true and not misleading as to the situation on the ground".

We cannot emphasize enough how disturbed we are by all of this. Yuck!
