A new year, a whole new side to Kanye West!

The rapper has apparently began dabbling in spinning records instead of cutting them, and is reportedly ready to start 2012 by play the grand opening of 10AK in Las Vegas tonight - as a deejay, using the pseudonym YeezyWorldPeace!

We can't even begin to imagine what else he'll have in store for us the coming year!

But we're cautiously excited to find out!

Yesterday I posted my list of my Fave Albums of 2011 and today I present my list of my Fave Movies of 2011. In all honesty, 2011 was not a great year for film overall. Yes, there were some fun movies out this year … yes, there were a few important films but … for the most part, I was pretty Meh about the entire catalog of films that were released in 2011. But, despite the onslaught of terrible stuff released this year (ugh, Green Lantern) there really were a few really great films. Click below to see the list I complied of my fave films of the year.

Normally, I write out little paragraphs about why I like each film but because my full movie reviews for each of these films is so readily available, I’ll just rank the films in order and link each film to the original film review I wrote for the blog.

Just a few things about some of these choices … I stand by my assertion that the new Footloose is a fun, updated remake of one of the best 80s films of all time. Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a very clever prequel … one that has opened the door for an entire new franchise of hopefully just-as-clever films. Win Win is the best movie that no one saw this year. X-Men: First Class was, by far, the best superhero film of the year. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 just made me weep like a baby … it was a great film to end a great franchise. I remain totally obsessed with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo … it was really the only movie I really thought about all year long and is the only film that I want to continue to watch over and over and over again.

Yesterday was a fun and productive day for me … I saw my last movie of 2011 and then I attended my last concert of 2011. The movie was The Iron Lady, starring Meryl Streep … the concert was Matthew Sweet at the Echoplex performing his 1991 album Girlfriend in full. ‘Twas a great day full of fun entertainment. I’m calling it now … Meryl Streep will win the Best Actress Academy Award in February for her stunningly magnificent work in The Iron Lady. She absolutely gives the best performance of the year and almost literally becomes former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the film. That said … the overall film itself is just OK. I am not a fan of telling a story in flashback so that was the first strike from me against the film. I also wasn’t very impressed with the focus on the ailing Thatcher‘s life, full of delusion and sadness. That said, those scenes do give Streep ample time to shine as an actress. The film is strongest, I think, when we see Streep portraying Thatcher when she was in her prime. I just marveled at the brilliant performance that Meryl Streep gives in this film … truly, she is a wonder to watch. I was pleasantly surprised to see that former Buffy actor Anthony Stewart Head has a role in the film. All in all, I found the film good and entertaining but it wasn’t my favorite biopic. Make no mistake, this is a film that you MUST see because Meryl gives one of the peformances of her lifetime … but generally, the overall film felt disjointed and didn’t really gel for me.

After the movie, I met up with my friend Jen and we made our way to the Echoplex to see Matthew Sweet in concert:

It’s crazy to believe that his album Girlfriend is 20 years old but … yeah, it is. It was quite a treat getting to hear him perform the album in full. I must admit that I was very surprised to see how much Matthew let himself go … but he sounded great and his guitar work was still excellent so it was a great, great show. Jen and I had a lot of fun last night.

And that’s it, y’all. 2011 is *almost* over and we are about to start a brand new year. Tonight, David and I will be dining with our friends Tam, Ollie, Rob and Caleb and then a bunch of us will be hanging out at Ollie & Caleb’s place downtown for the rest of the night. I sincerely hope that all y’all have a happy and very safe New Year’s Eve! See you in 2012!!

With as many potential hits as there are on that album, we don't blame her for needing some help picking her next single!

Rihanna apparently just couldn't decide what track off of Talk That Talk to drop next, so she took to Twitter to ask her fans to help her figure it out!

She wrote:

And after many quickly wrote back - the top choices were Cockiness (Love It), Watch N' Learn, and Drunk On Love - RiRi responded:

We much prefer this usage of the social networking site than possible thinly-veiled messages of love to abusive exes, gurl!

Last month we got our first look at the first video trailer for next year’s fairytale action film Snow White and the Huntsman and today we get to check out a newly released international trailer that features a lot of new, previously unseen footage. As you may recall, one of the hallmarks of the first trailer was that actress Kristen Stewart, who stars as Snow White, is barely seen and is NOT heard at all in the clip. I’m happy to report that the same rings true for this new trailer. Click below to check it out.

Man. Yeah … this movie looks like it’s going to be awesome. As much as I really do NOT want to be excited about a Kristen Stewart film, I can’t help it … Charlize Theron just looks too damn cool. This looks really, really good … yes? I’m calling it right now … this will be the only Snow White film of 2012.

'Atta, gurl!

Lindsay Lohan is NOT happy about reports that she'll be pAArtying it up in Dubai for the New Year, and has even had her lawyers fire off a cease and desist letter to the company planning the event on the QE2, demanding that they stop using her name to promote it!

According to attorney Stephanie Ovadia, the actress "will suffer harm and damage" by using her without permission, and she will press charges if necessary!

Fair enough! We've been very proud of how committed she's been as of late to getting her act together, and are happy to know that this story was just nonsense!

Hopefully they'll stop the name-dropping and no further legal action will need to be taken!

Yesterday we saw a few amazing photos of hottie Ryan Gosling lookin’ all sweaty, barefoot and disheveled as he made his way out of a mixed martial arts training class here in SoCal. It would seem that Ryan went from the gym straight to the airport to meet his ladylove Eva Mendes (without even bothering to change) so that the two of them could jet off to NYC together. As you may know, Ryan and Eva have been creepin’ creepin’ together for the past few months and things appear to be still going very strong. Clearly, Ryan knows who he wants to be kissing at the stroke of midnight tonight.

Ryan Gosling, it seems, is a creature of habit. Over the last few days he has been spotted two days in a row going to his Mixed Martial Arts class and then getting changed in his car. But the 31-year-old actor may have taken his regime a little too far today, by wearing the same T-shirt that he work out in yesterday. Hopefully for his girlfriend Eva Mendes, Ryan washed the shirt, as he jetted out of LAX with the 37-year-old actress for their romantic trip to New York City. The Idles of March star paired his favourite top with a cosy knitted cardigan and a pair of charcoal jeans. He carried a giant tan travel bag and had his favourite green backpack on his shoulders. Meanwhile Eva arrived equally wrapped up, as the couple prepared to touch down in their destination of the Big Apple. She kept warm in a grey knitted sweater, black trousers and a burgundy oversized cardigan.

Soooooooo … lemme get this straight … Ryan Gosling was spotted wearing a shirt that he sweated in, and that’s a … problem? No. No No No. I see no problem here. I’m certain Eva has no issue whatsoever with Ryan wearing whatever he likes … I’m sure she likes it even more when he wears nothing at all. I suspect these two will find a very fun way to celebrate the arrival of 2012. HMMM.
